This animation shows Paris during the Medieval times. It shows the power of the Church whenever one claims it as sanctuary and how evil men pay the price.

When Esmeralda talks to Frollo, that won me over. She’s my favorite (regrettibly unrecognized) Disney princess.

There is some latin in the background that might prove interesting for you to hear. The translation is this:
Lamb of God
He who takes upon himself
The sins of the world
Lamb of God
Grants us peace

Ha, I’m kind of the opposite. When I was little, I just though that the people were treating him horribly, but didn’t recognize it for being any worse than just “really mean”. Now, being an adult, it’s really more than I can take to see that extent or cruelness.

I remeber when I was little, when Esmerelda names Frollo ‘King”, saying to my Dad ‘But he didn’t even do anything funny…’ Silly me. Esmerelda’s escape scene is brilliant =D

When I watched this film when I was younger, I used to hide behind the couch when Quasimodo is tied to the turnstable. I refused to watch it. When I watched this film again recently for the first time in over five years, I realized I couldn’t bring myself to watch that same part. Only by the third viewing did I bring myself to watch, and I swear I almost cried. Poor, poor Quasi 3=

If you read the book, Qusi is actually stoned and whipped on the turntable because he is thought to have attacked Esmeralda one night. When actually he was trying to save her. Its good that Disney thought of an idea to inter-twin the two matters into one at the festival.

Disney movies have human characterization, when they started throwing stuff at him, ppl really are mean like that just cuz he might have not been as handsome as other ppl in the movie, but disney makes them all a cartoon so the kids can enjoy it also
another thing, the ppl dont do anything this mean in the 1936 black and white version cuz the ppl were too scared of him

People don’t realize that this scene was one of disney’s first attempts at digital animation. The confetti used, and the crowds… there are many places in this scene where it was used. It’s an excellent first shot at digital animation.

I’m starting to think that Clopin knew what he was doing when he pushed Quasi onto that wheel…he can’t have known exactly what was going to happen, but he probably knew something would occur at Quasi’s expense. Just by his expression when he gave him the sceptor, and how he completely dissappeared as they were throwing things at the new “King”.
Fun song though, love it!
